Running a Grammar Check
Upload a document, then click Run Check. Results appear in the Comments panel on the right, organised by Grammar, Style, Guidelines etc.
AI Modes
Open AI Mode Settings (badge in header). Choose Script Only (offline), LanguageTool (free, online), or an AI provider. AI adds tone, style, and semantic rule checking. Full guide →
LanguageTool
LanguageTool Online is the default engine — free, no setup. For offline use, download the local server from Setup. Adds 1500+ grammar rules. Setup guide →
Custom Rules & Guidelines
Upload a style guide or rules document in the left sidebar. The system auto-extracts rules. Unclassifiable rules are checked by AI when an AI mode is configured.
Dictionary & Exceptions
Right-click a flagged word → "Add to Dictionary" to stop it being flagged. Manage words in the Dictionary & Exceptions section. Upload a rules doc with lines like "Exception: data*" for wildcard exceptions.
Citation Styles
Select a citation style in Check Options. The script engine checks format patterns. AI mode checks semantic citation compliance. Supports APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, Harvard, Vancouver, AMA, Turabian.
Template Check
Open the Template tab. Upload your template (.docx) and the document to compare. Click Run Template Check. With AI enabled, each issue gets an impact explanation.
Theory Checks
Enable theories in the Theory Checks section (left sidebar). Upload a theory doc and click AI Check for framework-specific validation (Bloom's, Kirkpatrick, ADDIE, etc.).
Combined Mode
In AI Settings, select Combined Mode then configure which engines to include. Use Merge to run all and combine results, or Fallback Chain to try each in order until one succeeds.
Live Check
Click the Live button in the header to enable live checking. The script engine checks 1.5 seconds after you stop typing; LanguageTool checks after 3 seconds. AI does not run in live mode.
Check Selection
Select text in the document viewer — a Selection button appears in the header. Click it to check only the selected paragraphs.
Mobile vs Desktop
On mobile, use the bottom tab bar to navigate between panels. All core checks work on mobile. Browser AI (Transformers) is not recommended on mobile due to memory. Details →
